What’s Going On At The Library?

Around Ambler, libraries abound. Each one has their own little charm AND each one usually has something cool going on other than taking out books (although what could be cooler than that?). Here are some of the awesome events, classes, clubs and meetings coming up at our area libraries.

For the Kiddies:

Story Time With Miss Michelle – Wissahickon Valley Public Library – Ambler Branch – Thursday, October 1st, 4:30 – 5:00 pm
Miss Michelle’s Story Guitar Times is about 30 minutes with stories and songs. For all ages.

Lego Club – Upper Dublin Public Library – Monday, October 05, 2015 – 4 – 6 pm
Mondays, 10/5, 11/9, 12/14 Two sessions: 4-5 pm or 5-6 pm Ages 5-12. Join for LEGO building and friendship. They provide the LEGOs and you provide the imagination. No registration, but space is limited.

Chinese Language & Culture for Kids – Upper Dublin Public Library – Tuesday, October 6th, 2015, 7 – 7:45 pm
Tuesdays, 10/6, 10/13, 10/20, 10/27: 7-7:45 pm Grades 3-5. Curious about the Chinese culture? Ever wanted to learn to speak another language? Join to learn more about this faraway country and its beautiful language. Teacher Mrs. Ling Zhang has been teaching at the Guanghua Chinese School since 2009 and also currently teaches Chinese as part of the after school program at Fort Washington and Jarrettown Elementary Schools. She graduated from the Communication University of China, with a major in directing and a minor in broadcasting. Her goal is to cultivate children’s interest in learning Chinese. Chess Club – Wissahickon Valley Public Library – Blue Bell Branch – Wednesday, September 30th, 2015 – 7 pm
The Chess Club at Blue Bell meets weekly at Blue Bell on Wednesdays at 7 pm. Must already know how to play at any level. Coordinated by Carl Bingler. Children who want to play chess are welcome; however a parent must stay with the child.

Magic: The Gathering Club – Upper Dublin Public Library – Thursday, Oct 01, 2015, 2:30 – 4 pm
Grades 9-12. Whether you’re a seasoned player or just want to learn how to play, bring your cards and join every Thursday for Magic: The Gathering Club.

For the Adults:

Upper Dublin Knitters – Upper Dublin Public Library – Thursday, October 1st – 7:15 – 8:15 pm
Have you ever wanted to learn how to knit in a supportive, relaxed environment? Love knitting and looking for some company? Come out to our weekly knitting group at UDPL! All are welcome to attend, whether you’ve been knitting for decades or are just getting started! Please bring your own supplies. For ages 16+.

Writing For Publication – Wissahickon Valley Public Library – Blue Bell Branch – Friday, October 2nd, 12:30 pm
Hands-on writing workshop with published, award-winning writer Janet Mason. This class is about discovering what is unique about your story. This is the most direct path to publication, and the most direct path to you! Designed both for writers who want to focus on traditional routes of publication and for those who want to preserve their stories for posterity (via self-publishing). Find your unique viewpoint that you have to offer. In-class writing assignments including exercises in mining your raw material; creating detailed concise prose — either fact or fiction — that brings the reader into the immediacy of your writing; how to assess the literary marketplace; find out what is written on your subject and what remains to be written; write a book outline/proposal; how to publish memoir and novel excerpts; how to contact agents, small presses and self-publishing options. This series is 6 classes long: Fridays at 12:30 pm. October 2 to November 13. No class October 23.
