164 new cases of Coronavirus in Montgomery County, 128 are from long-term care facilities

Montgomery County officials announced today during a virtual press conference that there are 164 new cases of Coronavirus in the county, of which 128 are associated with long-term care facilities. The total number of cases in the county is now at 5,274.

Also announced were 12 deaths, which brings the countywide total number of deaths confirmed due to Coronavirus to 429. Probable deaths, those without a lab test, is 203. Of the confirmed deaths, 375 of the 429 or 88% are from long-term care facilities.

The 14-day average of positive tests is now 1,413 with a daily average of 101. The big dip over the weekend can be attributed to the county’s testing facility being closed and the Mother’s Day holiday. The big jump today was likely due to a long-term care facility or facilities conducting mass testing. As we noted in the first paragraph, 128 of 164 of the positive cases reported today came from long-term care facilities.

The county is currently 72.1 off the goal of an average of 30 positive tests per day to move from phase red to phase yellow and a partial reopening.

Hospitals in the county continue to have in the 300s in patients with Coronavirus. About 25 percent of that number is on a ventilator.

In regards to long-term care facilities, 93 facilities reported 1,534 residents and 565 staff members who have had a positive test result. Not all residents and staff are Montgomery County residents.

The local data is as follows:

  • Ambler is at 90, which is the same as since Saturday
    • There have been nine deaths overall in Ambler
  • Lower Gwynedd is at 114, which is two more than since Saturday
    • There have been 14 deaths overall in Lower Gwynedd
  • Upper Dublin is at 128, which is 24 more than since Saturday
    • There have been nine deaths overall in Upper Dublin
  • Whitpain is at 98, which is nine more than since Saturday
    • There have been four deaths overall in Whitpain, which is one more than since Saturday
