27 Year Old Woman Raises Over $300K for a Homeless Man Who Bought Her Gas With The Last $20 In His Pocket

Here is a close to home, feel-good story about the spirit of giving…

27 year old, Kate McClure’s car ran out of gas on I-95 near Philadelphia late one night, and a homeless man soon approached her as she was walking to find a gas station, and offered his help.  Johnny Bobbitt, 34, homeless and a former firefighter and Marine Corps Veteran, advised McClure to go back and stay in her car while he walked to a station to use his last $20 to buy her gas.  Because of Johnny, Kate was able to get home safely.

Kate went back to the same spot to repay Johnny, and visited a few more times to bring him essentials, a warm coat and gloves and learned a little more about him each time she went.  She decided that she wanted to help Johnny get back on his feet, so in addition to repaying for the gas, McClure started a GoFundMe page to tell her story and repay Bobbitt for his act of kindness.  The page has raised over $350.000, and the funds will be used towards rent, 4-6 months of expenses, and possibly a car, although Johnny’s first thought, after learning of the funds raised, was to pay it forward once again.
