A boiler-related incident occurred at Wissahickon Middle School on the afternoon of August 19th when contractors were testing a newly installed boiler unit. According to a notice from the Wissahickon School District to families, while the boilers were being inspected, a delayed ignition created a loud boom. The noise triggered the school’s fire alarm systems, damaging one of the new boiler units and the chimney.
Local fire department and emergency teams responded to the incident by evacuating staff from the school before helping investigate the event. Everyone in the school was safe, the district reports. No summer programs were in session, and no students were in the building at the time.
In the notice, the district thanked first responders and staff for their quick action. For more updates and other school news, visit the Wissahickon School District’s website: Wissahickon School District – Home.
