A home that once served as George Washington’s headquarters listed for sale in Fort Washington

A Fort Washington home that can honestly claim that “George Washington once slept here” has been listed for sale. The home, known as the Emlen Home, at 1901 Pennsylvania Avenue in Fort Washington (Springfield Township), served as Washington’s headquarters after the Battle of Germantown and leading up to and during the Battle of Whitemarsh.

The Emlen family, a prominent Quaker family, originally built the home as a summer house in 1717. The home was constructed with Camp Hill stone and limestone from nearby quarries. Today, it is situated next to the 36-acre Piszek Preserve, which includes woodlands, wetlands, and meadows protected under the auspices of Natural Lands.

The 8,000-square-foot home features six bedrooms, five full bathrooms, and two half bathrooms. The current owner recently completed renovations of the home. Cherokee Construction completed the renovations with the guidance of Asher Slaunwhite Architects. The listed price is $3,295,000.
