Ambler resident graduates from Accelerated Training in Defense Manufacturing

Ambler resident Benjamin Horner (pictured right) recently joined more than 400 graduates from Accelerated Training in Defense Manufacturing, with a credential in Welding.

As the US Navy seeks 100,000 workers to support the submarine program over the next 10 years, the program addresses the skills gap in the workforce for the defense industrial base by providing accelerated, hands-on training specific to the industry. Students graduate from the 16-week program with a workforce credential and experience in a simulated manufacturing environment. The program is proven, as evidenced by more than 30 employers in the maritime industrial base who recruit from Accelerated Training in Defense Manufacturing graduating cohorts.

“This cohort has mastered critical defense manufacturing skills in just 16 weeks – something that traditionally takes two to three years,” said Christa Reed, interim vice president for Accelerated Training in Defense Manufacturing. “Each cohort from ATDM strengthens America’s defense industrial base as our graduates immediately contribute to critical submarine production and maintenance programs.”

ATDM is currently accepting applications for the April cohort in the areas of additive manufacturing, CNC machining, non-destructive testing and welding, with scholarships and housing provided for students.
