On the May 26th agenda for Ambler’s planning commission is a review of phase two of Ambler Crossings’ preliminary and final land development application. Phase one of Ambler Crossing opened in 2022 with 114 units. Phase two of the project proposes the construction of 92 units adjacent to phase one on South Chestnut Avenue. The hearing is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at the borough hall.
Also on the agenda is a continued discussion on updating the borough’s comprehensive plan and the drafting of goals and themes. Municipalities update comprehensive plans, usually every 10 years, to provide a long-range, officially adopted policy document that guides (does not bind) the future physical, social, and economic development.
An additional item is a potential motion to “Recommend to Council Ordinance amendments to require recreation area or open space for all new developments or subdivisions. This would also include provisions for a fee in lieu of in the event recreation area or open space is not feasible, that can be put towards existing park improvements.” Essentially, this means the borough can require developers to dedicate a portion of the property to public use or open space, or pay a fee that the borough can use to improve its parks.
