The Ambler Branch of the Wissahickon Valley Public Library was recently awarded $750,000 from the state through the Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program. The program provides money towards the construction of regional economic, cultural, civic, recreational, and historical improvement projects. The application had requested $1 million.

In the description of the Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program announcement, it describes the improvements needed at the library.

The Ambler Branch of the Wissahickon Valley Public Library is not accessible to the physically handicapped and therefore needs updated and renovated. The constructon activities include: addition of education programming room; community meeting room; expanded children’s area; a new lobby and circulation desk; and a new entrance vestibule. A ramp will create an accessible path from the street to the library. That and 3 new accessible bathrooms will fully open the building to the physically disabled and to the elderly with canes and walkers and wheelchairs.

Note that the improvements have already been completed.
