Lower Gwynedd resident donates $1 million towards Montgomery County homeless facility

Lower Gwynedd resident Nand Todi has donated $1 million through the Todi Foundation to Montgomery County’s new short-term supportive housing facility, currently under construction in Lansdale. The facility, first announced in December 2024 and located at 1107 East Main Street, will house approximately 20 individuals at a time and has the potential to reduce homelessness in Lansdale by up to 75%.

“In Montgomery County, we’ve been working hard to address a crisis in housing affordability and increasing homelessness. Nand Todi recognized our efforts — and he wanted to support Montco’s work. It is rare for philanthropy to support the work of government — that’s what makes this seven-figure gift from Nand Todi and the Todi Foundation so exceptional,” said Neil K. Makhija, chair of the Montgomery County Board of Commissioners. “Mr. Todi has run a successful manufacturing company right here in Montco, and his commitment shows tremendous confidence in our ability in local government to work efficiently for positive outcomes.  The Todi Family could have done many things with their success and resources — we’re so grateful they decided to invest in this initiative.”

“The Todi Foundation is very pleased and proud to support this short-term transitional housing project. Homelessness is a problem that is very close to our hearts, and it saddens me to see this problem in this country, which is the most advanced and richest country in the world,” said Nand Todi, president of the Todi Foundation.” I hope this shelter will provide not just a temporary refuge, but an opportunity for individuals to receive proper training, counseling, and guidance so that they are able to live a dignified life.”

In addition to providing shelter, the facility will offer wraparound services provided by Resources for Human Development. These services will support residents who need permanent housing placement, behavioral health services, and access to other resources. Referrals will be coordinated through local outreach teams and the County’s Your Way Home partnership.

“This gift is one of the largest private commitments to homelessness services in Montgomery County,” said Jamila Winder, vice chair of the Montgomery County Board of Commissioners. “We are deeply grateful to Mr. Todi for his generosity and to Lansdale Borough for helping us secure this site. This project demonstrates how public-private partnerships can drive meaningful progress when we unite for the greater good.”

“When this shelter opens, it’s going to drastically cut the number of people living on the streets in Lansdale,” said Tom DiBello, Montgomery County Commissioner. “Life happens and sometimes people get down on their luck. I’m proud that this philanthropic support from the Todi Foundation will help so many of our residents get back on their feet.”

Mr. Todi’s contribution reduces the amount of County funding originally allocated for this project. The total operational and construction budget is approximately $2.6 million.

As part of a full renovation to transform the site, which was a former office building, the new short-term supportive housing will include:

  • 20 beds (four single-occupancy and eight double-occupancy rooms)
  • A warming kitchen
  • Community and recreation spaces
  • Laundry facilities
  • Office space for case management and supportive services
  • 24/7 staffing and security

Once completed, shelter guests can expect a typical 60–90-day stay, with flexibility based on individual needs. The facility remains on track for an early 2026 opening, with a ribbon-cutting planned for February 20, 2026.
