Montgomery County Health and Human Services Warns of Restaurant Inspection Scam

The Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services would like to alert the owners of restaurants and other establishments throughout the county that reports have been received of individuals impersonating the department’s health inspectors.

The Health Department has received reports that several establishments throughout the county have received phone calls from individuals who claim to be health inspectors. During those calls, the business owners are asked to pay supposed fines for violations by putting money on a Green Dot prepaid debit card. “Payment for fines or other fees is never taken in the field,” said Barbara O’Malley, Director of Health and Human Services for Montgomery County. “Payments are made by money order or check made out to the county’s treasurer. Anyone who is asked to make a payment by any other means should contact the county.”

All health inspectors carry a badge and Montgomery County photo ID that identifies them as a member of the Montgomery County Health Department. Calls or visits from health inspectors can be verified by contacting the Health Department at 610-278-5117.
