Mr. Michael W. Heayn, former mayor of Ambler, United States Air Force veteran, and longtime owner of Michael W. Heayn Photographer, passed away on April 30. He was 75.
Following his service with the Air Force, Mr. Heayn was a photographer for the Conshohocken Recorder, head photographer at the Valley Forge Freedom Foundation, staff photographer at The Times Herald, and photographic instructor at the A.D. Eisenhower School, Norristown, according to his obituary.
He owned his own photography company for 53 years.
“His most recent awards were the Award of Excellence from the Ocean City, NJ Boardwalk Art Show; 1st Place for Professional Photography in Cape May, NJ Promenade Art Show (2 times); Best Photography by a Professional from the Greater Norristown Art League; 1st Place Gallery of the Arts Pennridge; and the Photographic Excellence Award Quakertown Art’s Alive (5 times, including the Essence of Upper Bucks award)”, his obituary said.
In addition to his professional career, Mr. Heayn served as a past president of the Ambler Business Association, vice chairman of the Ambler Planning Commission, board member of the Community Action Development Committee and building chairman and president of the Mattie N. Dixon Community Cupboard in Ambler. He won awards and recognitions from the NAACP, the Filitalia Ambler Chapter, the Montco Community Action Development Commission, and the Opportunity Board of Montgomery County, his obituary said.
Friends and family will gather to celebrate his life after 9:30 AM on Saturday, May 16, 2026 at the Anton B. Urban Funeral Home, 1111 S. Bethlehem Pike, Ambler, PA. The funeral service will be celebrated at 11:00 AM. The interment will be private.
