New principal for Lower Gwynedd Elementary School

Wissahickon School District announced on February 3rd the appointment of Dr. Miesja M. Cubito as the new principal of Lower Gwynedd Elementary. The appointment was approved at the February 2nd board meeting and Dr. Cubito will officially assume her role on April 6th.

“I am honored to be chosen as the new principal of Lower Gwynedd Elementary School and am excited to join the Wissahickon community!” said Dr. Cubito.

Dr. Cubito brings more than 20 years of experience in education. She’s currently serving in her sixth year as principal of Glenholden School in the Interboro School District. She previously served as an assistant principal, technology leader, and district-level collaborator in both the Interboro and Springfield school districts. She has also served as an adjunct professor at Neumann University and Cabrini College, where she designed and taught courses in educational leadership and supported graduate candidates throughout their programs.

Dr. Cubito holds an Ed.D. in Educational Leadership from Neumann University, master’s degrees from Drexel University and Saint Joseph’s University, and a bachelor’s degree from Temple University.

“Dr. Cubito’s values, leadership style, and professional experience strongly align with the priorities identified by the LGE community for the next principal. She is compassionate, collaborative, and deeply committed to equity and inclusion. We are confident she will be an outstanding leader for Lower Gwynedd Elementary and will continue to build upon the strong school community already in place,” said Superintendent Dr. Mwenyewe Dawan.

The previous principal, Philip Leddy, was terminated in December after leaving anti Semitic remarks on a district’s parents voice mail after he thought he had hung up.
