Oscar-winning Upper Dublin grad nominated for Best Original Screenplay

Josh Singer, a graduate of Upper Dublin High School, has been nominated for an Oscar (Best Original Screenplay) for his Netflix biopic about the life of Leonard Bernstein, titled “Maestro. The film was directed by Abington native Bradley Cooper and has received seven nominations in total.

In 2015, he co-wrote the screenplay for Spotlight, for which he received an Academy Award (now officially known as an Oscar) for Best Original Screenplay.

Singer is also the screenwriter for a new Apple TV+ drama The Last Thing He Told Me, which premiered in April 2023. Singer called the series the most personal and important project he’s ever done.

Singer wrote The West Wing, The Post, Spotlight, and First Man and attended Sandy Run Middle School in Dresher before transferring to Upper Dublin High School.

He graduated magna cum laude from Yale and studied at Harvard Law and Business Schools.

The Oscars will air on Sunday, March 10.
