Registration is open for art classes at the Art Center at Ambler. Late fall classes start in November and run from four to six weeks, along with workshops that last from two to four days. There is something for every age and skill level. Registration is available online.

The Art Center at Ambler strives to uphold its organizational mission by providing professional, inclusive access to art resources, education, and community to intergenerational audiences throughout Montgomery County.

Watercolor Basics

This class reviews the basics of color theory, techniques, and design principles. We will utilize photographs for reference material or paint abstractly, depending on your area of interest. Beginners and advanced artists are welcome. A supply list will be provided.

Mosaics for Everyone!

Treat yourself! This might be the new experience you’ve been looking for! Register with a family member or friend, making art is more fun when done together! Anne can help you learn to make amazing things! You will come away with both a heartfelt creative experience and a beautiful piece of mosaic art. You’ll learn new skills to last a lifetime! Come and learn how to make and glaze ceramic tiles for your very own mounted and grouted mosaic piece. You can make a trivet, a wall hanging, an address plaque or a small tabletop or Anne will be bringing templates for you to choose from. All basic materials are included.

Wheel Throwing for Beginners

Have you always wanted to learn how to throw clay on the potter’s wheel? (Think Demi Moore in the movie Ghost.) In this class you’ll learn about different clay bodies, how to center your clay on the wheel and make bowls and cylinders. With that knowledge you can expand into making a variety of pieces. You will learn about trimming and finishing your work. We will learn about glazes and firing, as well. This will be a small class with individual attention for each student. This class is for beginner potters. (PS: Patrick Swayze not included).

Ceramic Hand Building and Sculpture

Expand your creative spirit by playing with clay. Join Michele in a class focusing on craftmanship and expression. Get comfortable with clay as a medium in hand building and sculpture. We will explore forms, texture, surface decoration and glazes. Dress to play.

This class is designed to increase your creative spirit and decrease your stress! Join Reiki master Violet in a slow-paced gentle drawing class. Learn how to use drawing materials and techniques while focusing on abstracting or capturing still life. Bringing in methods of mindfulness breathing, this class may help you to be more present with and positive about your creative experience! All skill levels and abilities are welcome! Learning new things can be more comfortable with a friend, know someone who is interested but unsure about getting started, sign up together! Photography as an Art Form

George will be discussing how to view photography as an art form rather than simply as a way to document a moment in time. In this course, you’ll learn to see the world in creative and colorful ways and how to tell a story through the lens. Each student will receive an enlargement of their favorite class assignment at the conclusion of the class. Materials needed: A camera.

KASS MORIN FREEMAN 2-DAY WORKSHOP

Painting Autumn Trees

Paint the light of a bright fall day, making the sky an integral part of your painting. Bring photo resource material if you have any, and scrap watercolor papers to try various techniques for making great shapes and lively trees.

Youth Holiday Workshop for Ages 10-15

Complete two unique, themed paintings over 4 days – one themed for winter, and the other for New Year’s Eve. Step-by-step instruction will include sketching; painting basics (paints, brushes, aprons, etc.); line techniques; water reflections, and how to add final touches to make their paintings pop! Students will come home with a completed 16” x 20” painting. All materials included!
