It’s hard to imagine that summer is coming to an end already. We’ve reached the point in the season where one day it’s 95 Degrees with a million percent humidity, and the next day it’s overcast and we find ourselves wishing we had worn long pants. Summer has come and gone. Soon, the kids will be headed back to school, the leaves will be turning colors, and Pumpkin Spice everything will rear its ugly head. This fall we’re looking to encourage everyone to be proactive in their fall project planning and offering a No-Cost, No Obligation, Whole House Plumbing Inspection! We’ll address any plumbing and drain concerns you may have, inspect the Plumbing WITH you, and then we’ll find solutions that work for you.
As the fall season starts and the holidays approach, Everyone scrambles in October and November to get the house ready for the holidays. However, what no one ever seems to expect is that with the cold weather comes colder water. Every single September and Early October, without fail, as we hit the first cool weather fronts, cold water hits our water heater tanks and shocks them. The sudden introduction to cold water causes what is called thermal contraction. It causes the metal tank to contract as the cold hits it, and as it heats back up to your desired temperature, it expands again as the water heats and pressure builds. Your water heater has been doing this for years and like the tab of a soda can, it can only be flexed so many times before it wears thin from stress. This is why water heaters usually fail from the top. Every single fall, without fail, we see an influx of 10+ year old water heaters start leaking from the tank as soon as the cold hits.

What can you do?
Be proactive! All the health gurus will tell you. “Prevention is key.” Plumbing Inspections save you time, money, and heartache. During a plumbing inspection, a technician will invite you to tag along as they inspect all your safety and pressure devices together. Catching the little things helps to avoid the bigger things. The first thing we check is your water pressure, which is just as important to control as your blood pressure. Pressure-reducing valves limit pressure to a safe level coming in, and thermal expansion tanks protect your system from pressure buildup as you heat the water. An expansion tank in good working order will give your older equipment a fighting chance to survive another season. It is imperative that you have your pressure checked annually and have expansion tanks changed every 3-5 years. Remember that things subject to high pressure have a shorter life span. So make sure you set up a plumbing inspection this fall, and while we’re feeling productive, maybe book a check-up for yourself with your primary doctor, also. Tell them Matt from PlumbPRO sent you.
The Truth… The biggest disservice we do to ourselves in this life is to tell ourselves, “We have time”. Sometimes we’re ”too busy”, or “It isn’t the right time”, or “It’s a lot of money to spend right now…” Whatever it is we tell ourselves, the truth is this. “We have time right up until we don’t”. For me, this lesson was learned hardest with the loss of a loved one. That is a hard pill to swallow for sure. Now I’m not saying a water heater or a furnace is nearly as important as the people in your lives, but the principle is the same. Be proactive, make the time, and if needed, we can help you figure out the financials. Failures always seem to occur the night before your vacation, or 6 pm on Friday before the company comes for the weekend, or right after you’ve finished the basement. Save yourself some hardship, and let’s make a plan. You’ll also be able to learn more about our Service Partner Plan, which offers regular inspections for Plumbing, HVAC, & Sewer, AND comes with member savings. This way, you’re not having to find water heater money during Thanksgiving dinner.
