Zoning hearing for digital billboard in Whitpain Township scheduled for May 15th

An application to construct an off-premises digital billboard at 721-751 Arbor Way in Blue Bell is on the May 15th agenda for Whitpain Township’s zoning hearing board. The hearing will be held at 7:00 p.m. at the Whitpain Township Building at 960 Wentz Road in Blue Bell. The applicant is Kenjoh Outdoor Advertising LLC.

Kenjoh Outdoor Advertising is seeking a variance to allow a sign to be 466 feet from an existing residential property when the township’s code requires 1,000 feet. This Property is in the OPASOD—Off-Premises Advertising Sign Overlay District.

In the application, the applicant outlines a scenario allowing it to construct a billboard that meets the zoning code, but is within direct line of sight to nearby homes. Its claim is that by receiving the variance, it can place the billboard in a location that is obstructed from the view of the homes. Both locations fall within a strip of land between Union Meeting Road and the Pennsylvania Turnpike that is part of an office campus.
