Female home health aide convicted of stealing $113K from elderly Lower Gwynedd woman

Shabnam McAllister, 61, of the 100 block of Krewson Lane in Cheltenham Township, was convicted of financially exploiting an 86-year-old Lower Gwynedd Township woman while she worked as a home health aide, Mainline Media News reported.

According to the story, McAllister stole $113,400 from the victim, who is diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease and has extremely poor eyesight, between January 2019 and December 2021. She faces a possible maximum sentence of 10 to 20 years in prison on felony charges of theft by deception and financial exploitation of an older adult or care dependent person.

McAllister and her staff were responsible for cooking, shopping, cleaning and paying bills for the victim. She was terminated when the victim’s family examined her financial records and found inexplicable expenses.

“While she couldn’t remember exactly how many, McAllister admitted to writing herself more checks than she deserved or was properly owed, then having (the victim) sign them,” Lower Gwynedd Detective Michael Cantrell wrote in the criminal complaint.
