Alan Lindy, an Ambler resident and member of Or Hadash synagogue in Fort Washington, was featured by The Jewish Exponent in an article titled “Alan Lindy Continues to Give“.
According to the story, Lindy was raised in Cheltenham and attended Reform Congregation Keneseth Israel.
His family runs Lindy Communities of Jenkintown, a fourth-generation property management company that provides apartments in four states. In late January, the foundation purchased a 205-unit apartment building in Phoenixville from Fort Washington-based Westrum Development.
Local organizations supported by the Lindy family include Jefferson and Drexel universities, Temple University Hillel, Legacy Youth Tennis and Education, Federation Housing, The Jewish Federation of Greater Philadelphia and After School Activities Partnerships, among others.
“They all require a certain amount of work and engagement to help with their effectiveness,” Lindy, now 69 and semi-retired, said.

Lindy has also served for 25 years on the board of Federation Housing, a Jewish organization which provides housing in apartment complexes for seniors. A $1.6 million gift from the Lindy family funded a Willow Grove apartment building that was named Annabel Gardens for Lindy’s mother, The Exponent said.
He also served on the board of the Reconstructionist Rabbinical College in Wyncote, and in 2019, he was honored as the “Lighthouse Award” recipient at the 13th annual Looking Out for Kids charity event hosted by Salus University.
“Alan and Lindy Properties embraced the LOFK charity many years ago and has continued meaningful financial support and personal commitment to ensure its success,” Salus University said. “The LOFK charity is so very lucky to have Alan as a benefactor and I have been lucky to call him a friend.”
“The relationship really started to develop when Sue was coordinating the Looking Out for Kids events. We were happy and honored at the time to be a factor for her,” said Lindy of the award. “When we look at our values as a company, obviously we’re in business to provide residential services. But that is not the end-all because we really want to make a difference in terms of where we’re serving – not just in the community itself, but in the extended community as well.”
