Their mission statement is below:

At Ataraxis Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Self Defense, we believe that being aware of your surroundings and having the tools to defend yourself will bring confidence and calmness to enhance your personal safety…

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu  is a martial art system that focuses on ground fighting and grappling. BJJ promotes the idea that a smaller, weaker person can defend themselves against a bigger, stronger, opponent by using leverage, technique, and often after taking the fight to the ground, applying joint locks and choke holds. Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, via its parent art of Judo, was separated from Japanese jujutsu through an important distinction that was passed on to Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. It is not solely a martial art; it is also a sport. Brazilian Jiu Jitsu promotes physical fitness, is character building, and ultimately becomes a way of life.
