D&D Ribs Turning Out Some of the Best Smoked BBQ in the Area

D&D Ribs are in their 4th year of bringing smoked BBQ to Ambler.  Nestled down at the American Legion Post located at 351 West Maple Street, it is likely that you have driven by and noticed the unmistakable barbeque smell that fills the air each weekend. Operated by the husband and wife team of Dee and Don Robinson, D&D Ribs turns out some of the best barbecue in the area every Friday and Saturday from 11am-7pm.

Dee and Don raised their family in Oklahoma, where Don worked as a butcher, and as a side job, cooked ribs on the weekends in order to send his children to college.  When he and Dee moved to the Ambler area, Acme markets hired Don as their meat manager, a position he kept for 20 years.

Don retired at 62, and after feeling what it was like to “sit around”, he decided it wasn’t for him.  He started cooking ribs at flea markets, and it wasn’t long before he gained quite a following, which led him to find a more permanent location.  This is now Dee and Don’s 4th year cooking at the American Legion Post.

Don buys all of his meat the day before, seasons it and packs it in ice, so that he can start the smoking process very early each Friday and Saturday morning.  Don told us that his famous recipe ” comes from many, many years of trial and error…I am always trying to improve it.”

On any given summer weekend, Don will cook 8 cases of ribs, 72 baby back ribs and 40 spare ribs.  Dee and Don usually run out of ribs, so be sure to call ahead when placing an order.
