Former La Salle College High standout Sam Lipkin wins NCAA ice hockey title, dishes game-winning assist

Sam Lipkin, who played ice hockey at La Salle College High, recently added an NCAA championship to his personal trophy case that already includes a Pennsylvania state championship and a Clark Cup.

Lipkin is a star freshman and one of the leading scorers for the Quinnipiac Bobcats who played Minnesota on Saturday, April 8 in the NCAA title game. He passed the puck to freshman Jacob Quillan who scored the title-winning goal in overtime. This was Lipkin’s second assist on the night.

Lipkin scored the game-winning goal and added an assist in Quinnipac’s semifinal against powerhouse Michigan. The 6-foot-2 forward was named the ECAC’s rookie of the year and ranks second on the Bobcats in scoring with 41 points, which ranks him 19th nationally.

In 2019, Lipkin helped the Explorers win both the Flyers Cup and the AAA state championship, racking up 60 points in 25 games as a sophomore. He has also won a bronze medal for Team USA at the World Junior Championships.


Lipkin was was drafted in the USHL’s second round by the Chicago Steel and played four games in 2019-20 before earning a full-time spot the next two seasons. Lipkin went on to win the 2020-21 Clark Cup with the Steel.

The Arizona Coyotes chose Lipkin with the second-to-last pick of the NHL’s 2021 draft.
