Francis Wheatley was sworn-in as the new Chief of Police of the Upper Dublin Township Police

This week, at the Upper Dublin Township Board of Commissioners meeting, Francis Wheatley was sworn-in as the new Chief of Police of the Upper Dublin Township Police Department.

Chief Wheatley began his law enforcement career in 1983 with the Upper Dublin Township Police Department as a police dispatcher. He grew up in Upper Dublin and has raised his family in Upper Dublin as well. In 1986, Chief Wheatley was hired as a full-time police officer by the Whitemarsh Township Police Department. While employed with the Whitemarsh Township Police Department, he was promoted to Detective in 1999, Patrol Sergeant in 2004 and Patrol Lieutenant in 2011. Chief Wheatley served 16 years on SWAT and is presently in charge of the hostage negotiators for the Montgomery County SWAT West Team.

Chief Wheatley earned his Associate Degree from Montgomery County Community College, Bachelor’s Degree from Saint Joseph’s University and Master’s Degree from Wilmington University. Chief Wheatley also graduated from the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Virginia.

In January 2016, Upper Pottsgrove Township hired Chief Wheatley to manage their police department located in Pottstown, Pennsylvania. In late 2018, Chief Wheatley was appointed as Acting Township Manager by the Upper Pottsgrove Township Board of Commissioners.

Chief Wheatley has received numerous commendations throughout his law enforcement career, including a Commendation of Valor. Chief Wheatley’s career has been defined by his commitment to excellence and unequivocal commitment to professionalism, civil treatment and the protection of all rights of all persons coming within the scope of police authority.
