GMU’s Carol Evans, quarterfinalist for the Grammy’s 2024 Music Educator Award, featured by The Reporter

Gwynedd Mercy University Assistant Professor of Music and Director of The Voices of Gwynedd Carol Evans was recently featured in an article by The Reporter for her Grammy 2024 Music Educator Award nomination.

Now a quarterfinalist, Evans is submitting another application with videos of her work, testimonials from students and her teaching philosophy.

“Music is a wonderful tool to utilize to set students up for some wonderful experiences in life,” she told The Reporter. “Research has shown how music helps develop both sides of the brain.”

The article discusses The Voices of Gwynedd, a choir which has performed at high-profile events domestically and internationally, and which Evans expanded to include men and members of the community.

The Music Educator Award recognizes educators whose substantial efforts in education exemplify their dedication to sustaining music learning in academic environments.

Evans enters a quarterfinalist pool of 212 music teachers from 197 cities. In total, over 2,000 initial nominations were submitted. In addition to the quarterfinalists, 123 legacy applicants from 2023 will also be eligible to win the award this year.
