Montco Urban Search & Rescue Team assists in missing boater search, Montco detectives investigating police officer suicide

The Montgomery County Department of Public Safety announced today that the county’s Urban Search & Rescue Team assisted Pottstown Fire Department & Emergency Management with a search for a missing boater on the Schuylkill River on Monday, June 2.

According to their post, the missing boater was located deceased around 12:15pm.

“The team deployed two swiftwater boats, staffed with trained personnel, as well as mapping software that allowed for the live tracking of rescue assets and documentation of areas that had been searched,” the post said.


In related news, the department expressed condolences to the Upper Providence Township Police Department following news of a police officer who took his own life in the parking lot of the township campus on the evening of June 2.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the officer and his family. We thank the public for their grace as we navigate this tragedy. We will have no further statement tonight,“ the post said.

A prior post noted that the department and Montgomery County Detectives are conducting a joint investigation into the incident. No further information has been released at the time of this writing.
