Mrs. Judith ‘Mimmy’ Kalickman Bernstein of Ambler, elementary teacher turned TikTok star, has passed away at 82

Mrs. Judith “Mimmy” Kalickman Bernstein of Ambler, a former second-grade teacher turned Tiktok star, passed away at her home on Thursday, September 4 of complications from 11 primary cancers. She was 82.

A longtime second grade teacher at the Perelman Jewish Day School in Elkins Park (Cheltenham Township), “Mrs. B” once taught Governor Josh Shapiro and his siblings, her obituary said.

Shapiro told The Philadelphia Inquirer that Mrs. Kalickman Bernstein liked to stay connected with her former students and canvassed her neighbors when he ran for state legislature in 2004.

“Mrs. B was an outstanding teacher who instilled in me the critical foundational skills that helped me become a curious learner,” Shapiro said in a statement. “I so appreciated the pride she felt in my success.”

She retired in 2001 after being diagnosed with lymphoma, a condition that had her in and out of treatment at Fox Chase Cancer Center for the next 27 years. She accumulated 10 more primary cancer diagnoses during that period and volunteered at Fox Chase to comfort other cancer patients when she was well.

Beginning in 2022, she gradually garnered over 665,000 followers on TikTok.

“Kalickman Bernstein’s dry wit and zest for lifetouched swaths of Gen Z through TikTok, where her grandson Jake Kind had posted videos of the duo riffing on pop culture, nursing home gossip, and mundane family drama since 2022,” her obituary said.
