There were no surprises in the local elections in Ambler, Lower Gwynedd, Whitpain, and Upper Dublin on November 4th. Democrats hold a majority, some significantly, in registration in all four municipalities, and Democratic Party incumbents and new candidates won across the board.
Please note that all results are from Montgomery County and are currently unofficial until they are certified. You can view all the results for Montgomery County here.
Borough of Ambler
In Ward 1, voters were asked to vote for two candidates. Incumbents Karen Sheedy (D) and Louis Orehek (R) were the only candidates and won with 627 and 591 votes, respectively. Both appeared on the ballot as a Democrat and Republican.
In Ward 2, voters were asked to vote for two candidates, but only one candidate, incumbent Democrat Redmond Brubaker, qualified for the ballot. He won easily with 587 votes. For the other seat for Ward 2 up for election, there were 425 write-in votes. We have not yet seen a winner announced.
In Ward 3, voters were asked to vote for one candidate for a two-year term. Incumbent Democrat David Hui, who was appointed after a resignation, was the only candidate on the ballot. He won with 581 votes.
Also for Ward 3, voters were asked to vote for one candidate for a four-year term. Incumbent Democrat Elizabeth Iovine was the only candidate and won with 579 votes.
For mayor, incumbent Democrat mayor Jeanne Sorg defeated Republican Bernadette Doughtery 1,757 to 612.
For tax collector, incumbent Democrat Jennifer Stomsky defeated Republican Bernadette Doughtery, who served previously as tax collector, 1,423 to 910. This race was interesting to watch as Stomsky faced calls for her resignation from Jason Salus, chair of the Montgomery County Democratic Committee, and Ambler’s borough council, following social media posts she made following the assassination of Charlie Kirk. The controversy also led to her being removed as Whitpain Township’s deputy tax collector. Most local Democrats didn’t seem to care, and she continues to serve as the party’s leader in the Borough of Ambler.
Please note that Dougherty appeared on the ballot twice for the positons of mayor and tax collector, if she had won both, she would have had to choose between the two.
Lower Gwynedd Township
In Lower Gwynedd, voters were asked to vote for two candidates for township supervisors from a pool of four. Incumbent Democrat Danielle Ducket won with fellow Democrat Andrea Brockway, with 3,415 and 3,269 votes, respectively, defeating two Republicans, Vincent Small and Eric Holmquist.
For tax collector, incumbent Democrat Natalie Cormier, was the only candidate and won with 4,391 votes.
For auditor, incumbent Democrat Cathy Pagano, was the only candidate and won with 3,958 votes.
For a four-year term as auditor, there were no candidates, and 1,287 write-in votes were cast. A winner has not been announced as far as we have found.

In Ward 4 for township commissioner, there was only one candidate, and incumbent Ira Tackel won with 1,393 votes.

There was also a seat up for a two-year term. Incumbent Democrat Deanna Morris defeated Republican Joseph Campbell 10,508 to 4,797.
Upper Dublin School Board
