Philadelphia woman sentenced for kidnapping, binding, assaulting, robbing, and holding an Ambler woman for ransom

Baheejah H. Alwan, 43, of Philadelphia, who allegedly masterminded a plot to rob, kidnap, bind, assault and hold an Ambler woman against her will for ransom, has been sentenced to 13 to 45 years in prison, the Pottstown Mercury reported today.

Alwan was charged with kidnapping, burglary, robbery and conspiracy to commit burglary in connection with the February 19, 2023 incident, which took place at the victim’s Ambler apartment at the Crossings at Ambler Station complex.

Alwan reportedly took the victim to her Philadelphia residence where she was held for ransom by Alwan and two men for 24 hours. She was arrested in March of 2023.

A judge ordered Alwan to pay $20,000 in restitution to the victim, the Mercury said.

Alwan had previously delivered drugs to the victim and knew she came from a wealthy family, the Mercury said.

She and two males reportedly entered the woman’s apartment. One of the males pointed a gun at the victim’s head before the group ransacked the victim’s apartment for about 45 minutes. Alwan then used duct tape to cover the victim’s mouth and bind her feet and hands while the males stole approximately $20,000 of her belongings.
