Uber driver accused of groping passenger in Whitpain Township acquitted of assault, convicted of harassment

Robert Travers Corcoran, 62, of West Chester, was acquitted of a misdemeanor charge of indecent assault without consent after being accused of touching a female passenger in an indecent manner during a ride share trip in the Blue Bell section of Whitpain Township on February 10, The Reporter said.

A jury determined Corcoran, an Uber driver, harassed the woman and convicted him of a less serious misdemeanor charge of harassment. He faces a possible maximum sentence of six months to one year in prison.

Jurors said he “used lewd, lascivious or threatening language with the intent to annoy, harass or alarm the woman”, The Reporter wrote.

Montgomery County District Attorney Kevin R. Steele and Whitpain Township Police Chief Kenneth Lawson announced his arrest in March.

From the announcement:

On Feb. 10, 2025, a woman reported a sexual assault to Whitpain Township Police. The victim stated that at approximately 1:38 a.m. on Feb. 10, 2025, her friend called an Uber for them. He dropped off the male passenger at 2:02 a.m., then asked the victim to move to the front seat, while talking on Facetime with her sister. After she hung up the call, the defendant groped the woman’s breast while driving the vehicle. The woman resisted, verbally told Corcoran to stop and texted her sister about what happened. The defendant continued making lewd comments to the woman as he drove the vehicle. Once the Uber stopped at her residence, the victim exited the vehicle, and Corcoran followed and attempted to kiss her. He then grabbed the victim and hugged her as she ran into the residence. The police investigation found the vehicle’s Pennsylvania license plate provided by the victim was registered to Corcoran and matched his Uber profile.
