Wissahickon School District announced on Wednesday the hiring of Mr. James Kelly as the new principal of Shady Grove Elementary, effective September 2.
Approved by the School Board at the August 26 Board Meeting, Mr. Kelly will replace Dr. Jason Bialka.
“I look forward to continuing the rich traditions of Shady Grove Elementary School. My passion has always been creating an environment where students feel safe to take risks, supported through challenges, and encouraged to reach their fullest potential,” Mr. Kelly said. “I am excited to begin this journey and build meaningful, lasting relationships with students and staff.”
Mr. Kelly began his teaching career at Stony Creek Elementary, where he spent four years as a 4th grade teacher. He then moved to Wissahickon Middle School to teach 6th grade English Language Arts and Social Studies, an experience that allowed him to work closely with students during a pivotal stage in their education. Following his time in the classroom, he served as an instructional coach in the curriculum office, supporting teachers with best practices and curriculum development. For the past five years, Mr. Kelly served as an assistant principal at Wissahickon High School.
Mr. Kelly graduated from Kutztown University and earned his master’s degree in elementary education from Cabrini College.
“Mr. Kelly’s leadership style reflects the qualities our community values most—visibility, empathy, instructional excellence, and a focus on the whole child. We are confident that Mr. Kelly will be an outstanding leader for Shady Grove Elementary, building on its strong foundation and helping to shape its next chapter,” Superintendent Dr. Mwenyewe Dawan said.
