Wolf Administration Announces Work to Begin on ‘Green Light–Go’ Project – Expect Lane Closures in Upper Dublin

The Wolf Administration announced that construction is scheduled to begin today on a project to improve travel and safety at 19 intersections in several municipalities across Montgomery County, as part of PennDOT’s “Green Light-Go” initiative, Pennsylvania’s Municipal Signal Partnership Program designed to improve the efficiency and operation of existing traffic signals located in Pennsylvania.  Some roads in Upper Dublin are included.

Beginning today through Friday, June 29, from 9am to 3pm, lane closures are scheduled on Pennsylvania Avenue between Route 309 (Fort Washington Expressway and Bethlehem Pike in Upper Dublin and Whitemarsh township.

Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the area because slowdowns will occur. The contractor’s schedule is weather dependent.

Under this improvement project, PennDOT’s contractor will install fiber optic cables, and upgrade traffic signals at varying intersections.

“Partnerships with municipalities are key to the improvement of our vast transportation network,” Governor Tom Wolf said. “This program is meant to enhance safety and traffic flow in communities statewide.”

Made possible by Act 89, the state’s transportation funding plan, the program establishes partnership agreements between municipalities and PennDOT through which municipalities request up to 50-percent funding for traffic-signal projects. These grants were announced in May 2017.

Wampole–Miller of Conshohocken is the general contractor on the $1,558,716 improvement project which is financed with 50 percent state and 50 percent local funds. Construction on this improvement project is expected to be completed in summer of 2019.
