The Happy Chuseok Fest, an annual celebration of the Korean Chuseok holiday, is coming to Montgomery County Community College on Saturday, September 19. Hosted by the Korean Culture Community Foundation (KCCF) in collaboration with Montgomery County, the event features food, educational activities and cultural performances from over 15 performing arts groups. Admission is free and open to all ages.

Chuseok is a Korean harvest festival, often referred to as the “Korean Thanksgiving.” The holiday focuses on gratitude, family, respect and cultural heritage. Chuseok is traditionally celebrated on the fifteenth day of the lunar month, and spans three days in total. During this time, people give thanks for their blessings, pay respects to ancestors and visit and feast with family.

The Chuseok Fest will offer a K-Culture Experience Village with 10 immersive activities. The event also features Korean foods, informational exhibits, K-Pop music and Taekwondo demonstrations. At 2 p.m., visitors can hear a keynote speech from sociologist Dr. Sam Richards on the importance and history of Chuseok.

“Happy Chuseok Fest is more than a celebration of Korean culture,” said president of the KCCF, Sharon Hartz. “It is an invitation to our neighbors to experience the meaning of Chuseok together – to share gratitude, discover one another’s cultures, and build a stronger sense of belonging in the community we all call home.”
