Germantown Academy Begins Lower School Renovation Project

Work is underway at Germantown Academy to complete phase 1 of their Lower School Renovation Project.

When the PreK to 5th grade students return to school in the fall, they will be able to utilize modernized science labs and an expanded, permanent, cutting-edge 21st century Lower School Tinker Lab. In an effort to maximize security efforts, a universal Lower School front entrance, with an expanded lobby area is being constructed, as well as enclosing the Leas Hall Porch. Also included in phase 1 is a new Lower School office suite and faculty room.  All boilers are being replaced and  HVAC is being installed so that the classrooms have central heat and air. Take a look at the renderings of the renovation project below:

The new entrance allows for centralize access to the Lower School to increase security, provide equal and appropriate ADA access, and limit classroom access only to keycard holders.

The new lobby and administrative offices allows for increased office, meeting, and tutoring spaces.

The permanent Tinker Lab will encourage multi-sensory learning.

The science classrooms will be relocated closer to the Preserve, Nature Nook, and Wissahickon Creek.

Germantown Academy received funding for this project from a few extremely generous donors and the school board’s allocation of budgeted capital improvement funds.
