John Shapiro’s Superheroes 5K scheduled for June 8, all proceeds go to families struggling with pediatric cancer

John Shapiro’s Superheroes 5K will take place on Saturday, June 8, at Saint Helena School at 1499 DeKalb Pike, Blue Bell.

The event is a pediatric cancer fundraiser in honor of John Shapiro, who lost his battle to brain cancer in 2011 at the age of six. It will feature music, prizes, free snacks and treats, face painting, fire truck tours and photo opportunities with superheroes and local law enforcement.

The race has raised more than $600,000 since 2012, providing 194 local area families with financial gifts.

More than 1,000 runners, walkers, sponsors, donors and community leaders are expected to attend.

The 1 Mile Run/Walk begins at 8:30am, and the 5K at 9:00am, and a Kids Fun Run at 10:00am. The start and finish will be at Saint Helena School.
