A Code Red Hot Weather Emergency was declared by Montgomery County on their Facebook page Tuesday morning. The warning lasts from Wednesday, July 1st from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Thursday, July 2nd from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Code Red Hot Weather Emergencies are issued when temperatures are expected to reach 100 degrees Fahrenheit and higher for two or more hours. Those most susceptible to the heat include seniors, young children, and those with health conditions, the county said.
To keep safe, the county advised that residents stay hydrated, avoid strenuous activity, check on neighbors, especially seniors, and never leave children or pets in vehicles.
Montgomery County said it will offer additional support for individuals who are especially vulnerable, including seniors and unhoused people. Cooling programs in over 70 locations across the county are available to all residents who need them.
