Ambler seeking to raise rate of water service

The Borough of Ambler is seeking the approval of the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) to raise the rate of water service. According to the agenda for the April 5th meeting, the borough submitted the request to the PUC on March 31st.

The agenda also states that a letter was sent to the customers outside of the borough that notifies them of the request. AroundAmbler.com asked Borough Manager Mary Aversa whether the customers within the borough would also be impacted by any potential rate increase. Her response:

The Borough customers are not regulated by the PUC only the outside customers. The PUC will review and come to a determination on a percentage and then that will be the rate for outside Customers. The rate for the Borough could be lower as the filing cost and litigation are only permitted by the outside, So the outside customers will absorb those costs in their rate. This could take 6 to 8 months to be finalized and we will advise the Borough residents of the new rate when we have more information.
