Shady Grove Elementary Fourth Graders Start a For Kids, By Kids Newspaper- Bulldog Buzz

Fourth graders at Shady Grove Elementary – Joyce Liu, Lucia Morales, Lottie Stimmel, and Maya Zudaire – started a student-led newspaper at their school. The student staff editors meet on their own time outside of the school day to brainstorm ideas, write stories, and develop the layout for the newspaper.

The first issue includes a report on the International Fair, a recipe for kids, an interview with Dr. Albanese, puzzles, and a cartoon. Their favorite part of this experience is writing about all of the things they love. “It just makes writing that much more fun,” says Maya Zudaire.

The group hopes to inspire their peers to love writing as much as they do. The students plan to take their journalism skills with them to the middle school in a couple of years and start a newspaper there. For now, they’ve already started the second issue.

Shady Grove students are invited to contribute their stories to the Bulldog Buzz. Read the first issue here.
