The Montgomery County Department of Public Safety is reporting an unusually high number of cardiac arrest 9-1-1 calls today due to shoveling snow.  Their warning is below:

There have been an unusually high number of calls to 9-1-1 for cardiac arrests in Montgomery County today. There were 8 between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. and 2 in just the last hour.

Don’t over-exert yourself shoveling snow. Especially those with chronic conditions such as heart disease, diabetes and high blood pressure, take it easy while clearing the snow from vehicles, driveways and sidewalks. Better yet, hire someone to do it for you.

The heart has to pump harder in cold temperatures and the risk for heart attacks increases.
