At Tuesday’s Board Meeting, Whitpain Supervisors discussed their intent to purchase all or a portion of the Mermaid Tract for recreational purposes.
The property was recently sold by the original owners to Metropolitan Development Group. The new owners subsequently submitted a conditional use application to build 53 detached single-family homes on the property. However, the Supervisors continue to seek various alternatives to enhance recreational opportunities within the Township including adding additional ball fields, trails, and playing courts.
The Township plans to meet with representatives from Metropolitan and remains committed to the possible acquisition of all or a portion of the Mermaid Tract to enhance recreational opportunities for the community
