Wissahickon Seventh Grader is the Only Middle School Student to Place in Congressional App Challenge.

Weaver Goldman, a seventh grader at Wissahickon Middle School, won second place in the 2017 Congressional App Challenge( District PA-07),  that is aimed at engaging students in coding and computer science.  Over the last four months, thousands of students coded and submitted their original apps as part of a district wide competition that is hosted by members of the House.  190 Congressional districts across 42 states hosted app challenges for their student constituents.

Goldman was the only middle school student to place in the entire program.  His app is called: Never Forgetter and is an organization app that helps him keep track of all of his extra-curricular activities, which in his case, includes: learning to play the piano, practicing Spanish, and developing more apps.  Never Forgetter also manages his daily tasks. Weaver describes his Never Forgetter app as:

” …a list of different projects and you can open them up [to] get more details about them.”

Since elementary school, Goldman has been interested in coding and robotics and has coded other apps with his father.  They once created an app with the ability to control different things in their house like turning the lights on and off.  Once he developed his idea, Goldman worked alongside his father again to create the Never Forgetter app.  He is interested in practicing his coding skills and continues to learn new ones with each idea and app that he continues to develop.

In the future his goal is to get more involved with robotics, so that he can combine both his programming and robotics skills to find a good job.
